What is a bridge erector?
Bridge erector It is equipment used to place precast girders onto precast piers. Bridge erectors fall under the category of cranes, as their primary function is to lift girders and then transport and lower them into position.
Bridge erectors differ significantly from the cranes commonly referred to as “cranes.” They are subject to stringent requirements, involving either longitudinal travel on girders or vertical lifting and lowering. Bridge erectors are classified according to the type of bridge they are used to construct, including highway bridges, conventional railway bridges, and high-speed passenger-dedicated-line bridges.
Taking the JQ900A three-leg bridge-launching gantry with double girders as an example, the equipment mainly consists of a lifting boom, hoisting trolley No. 1, hoisting trolley No. 2, column No. 1, column No. 2, column No. 3, a hydraulic system, an electrical system, a diesel generator set, and a safety protection and monitoring system, among other components.
The JQ900A bridge-erection machine uses span-by-span simple-supported box girders, which are transported to the rear of the machine by the YL900 girder transporter for feeding. The crane trolley then pulls the main girder out and makes fine adjustments to the box-girder position in mid-air. The bridge-erection machine is hydraulically driven and travels on tires, enabling vertical movement through openings. It is capable of erecting 32-m, 24-m, and 20-m double-track full-span box girders and is suitable for installing box girders with a small curve radius of R5,500 m, a steep longitudinal grade of 20‰, and a rated lifting capacity of 900 t.
Bridge-erection machinery operating on highways and railway tracks is used to erect small-span girders spanning the entire bridge span. Due to its high bridge-construction efficiency, this method of erection is regarded as a design principle in China’s standard railway bridge design. However, because of its large overall dimensions, which exceed railway transport limits, the equipment must be disassembled for transport and reassembled on site before use.
There are three types of domestic erecting gantry cranes, which are mainly used for the segmental erection of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete girders.
