“Major National Equipment, Green Construction”: Xinda Fang’s Independently Developed DCMZ48 Modular Transporter (SPMT) Supports the Demolition of the Nanjing Huimin Avenue Elevated Bridge
Xindafang News: Recently, with the commencement of the demolition of the Nanjing Huimin Avenue elevated bridge, Xindafang’s independently developed DCMZ48 modular transporter—comprising eight sets—made its debut. This project is set to achieve several domestic firsts, including a single-span load exceeding 1,600 tons, the largest span, and the greatest overall scope of work!
The demolition of the Huimin Elevated Bridge is part of Nanjing’s strategic plan for integrated development across the Yangtze River. After more than two decades of service, this bridge will now become a cherished memory for Nanjing residents. Following its removal, an underground interchange will be constructed at the intersection of Huimin Avenue and Jianning Road, employing a “fast-in, fast-out” design to channel through-river traffic onto the southern Yangtze River express ring road network—comprising Yangtze River Avenue and Mufu West Road. According to reports, the entire demolition project for the Huimin Avenue elevated section is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.
Traditionally, bridge demolition has relied on manual chiseling, mechanical crushing, static blasting, or explosive demolition—methods that are inefficient, high-risk, and highly polluting. However, the recent demolition of the Huimin Avenue Bridge in Nanjing will leverage the Xindafang DCMZ48 modular vehicle to achieve “green construction” objectives: high efficiency, environmental friendliness, zero pollution, and minimal disruption to normal traffic. Moreover, this marks the first time this technology has been employed for elevated-structure demolition within Jiangsu Province.

The modular vehicle is a specialized transport vehicle independently developed by Xindafang, equipped with hydraulic lifting, hydraulically driven steering, and hydraulically powered travel. Its defining features include modular manufacturing, modular assembly, modular integrated transportation, and the ability to perform arbitrary modular combinations during operation. Standard modules include 4-axle and 6-axle configurations; by combining different modules, it can transport large, heavy, and irregularly shaped components. In particular, it has achieved the generalization and standardization of heavy-haul transport vehicles in non-standard applications, making it the preferred choice for modern heavy-haul transportation.
It features self-propelled hydraulic lifting and automatic top-end balance adjustment; offers eight travel modes, including straight travel, diagonal travel, lateral travel, figure-eight steering, and 360-degree central slewing; is equipped with a wireless remote control that integrates all vehicle-control functions, enabling comprehensive operation and control of the machine; boasts a robust, durable structure with a high-load-bearing design; incorporates a reinforced frame, enhanced undercarriage structure, and heavy-duty wheel assemblies, achieving a maximum single-axle load capacity of 48 tonnes and delivering superior transport capability per module.
During the demolition process, the Xinfada modular transporter functioned like a giant jack, with its 200-plus-ton chassis capable of supporting over 1,600 tons of weight. Once assembled, the transporter autonomously drove under the bridge via remote control and securely braced itself against the bridge deck. After the cutting was completed, the transporter slowly lifted the severed bridge section, raising it clear off the roadway. With nearly 200 tires, the transporter steadily carried the thousand-ton bridge segment away from the elevated structure, then adjusted its orientation to enter the dismantling area set up on the roadside open space. The entire demolition and transportation process unfolded smoothly, safely, and in an orderly manner, earning unanimous praise from the project team.

Major national projects demand great responsibility and a long journey ahead. Relying on more than three decades of deep expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural engineering, Xindafang will forge ahead with unwavering determination, continuing to develop cutting-edge infrastructure equipment that meets the needs of the times and the market, thereby making new and even greater contributions to the advancement of China’s specialized construction machinery industry.
