Xin Dafang Powers the Smooth Launch of Construction on the World’s Largest Single-Unit Floating Wind Power Platform

In mid-July, the launching ceremony for the “Mingyang Tiancheng,” a 16.6 MW floating wind power platform—the largest single-unit capacity in the world—jointly developed by Xindafang, was held at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard, marking the beginning of a new chapter in humanity’s exploration of marine energy.

“The Mingyang Tiancheng” is Developed in-house by Mingyang Group, a global leader in offshore wind power The two tower sections are arranged in a V-shape and each is equipped with an 8.3-megawatt offshore wind turbine, for a total capacity of 16.6 megawatts, making it suitable for deployment in a wide range of global waters with water depths exceeding 35 meters. With a hub height of 219 meters and a maximum overall span of approximately 369 meters, this represents the world’s largest-capacity dual-rotor floating wind turbine.

The floating foundation adopts a “Y”-shaped design, consisting of three buoyant pontoons, concrete arms, and connecting components. Measuring 117 meters in length, 105 meters in width, and 39.5 meters in height, the foundation weighs over 8,000 metric tons—making it a global first that has no precedent and for which no successful experience can be drawn upon.

As a benchmark enterprise in China’s wind-power equipment industry, Xindafang pioneered the domestically developed QLY series of cranes specifically designed for mountainous wind-farm construction, innovating green construction methods for mountain wind farms and successfully steering the sustained, stable, and healthy development of the sector. Leveraging its leading technologies and extensive experience in the wind-energy field, Xindafang Successfully secured the project for a production line of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) precast components for Mingyang’s floating wind turbine foundations.

Prefabricated concrete components for floating foundations feature “extra-large external dimensions, ultra-thin cavities and wall thicknesses, and UHPC.” “The concrete exhibits exceptionally high fluidity and strength, and the prefabricated components demand extremely tight dimensional tolerances.” To ensure the smooth execution of the project, Xindafang established the Mingyang Project Team, and “ Mingyang Tiancheng ” Project Team Sincerity Cooperation , has developed Global Pioneering Super Large-Volume, Thin-Walled, Large-Cavity Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) Prefabricated Components Production line Equipped with advanced technology, we have successfully manufactured prefabricated floating-foundation concrete components that meet ultra-large, ultra-thin, ultra-precise, and special-performance requirements. For “ Mingyang Tiancheng ” The successful launch has laid a solid foundation for steadfast commitment.

As economically viable onshore wind resources become increasingly scarce, global wind farm development has shifted from Land toward At sea The trend of development. Against the backdrop of vigorous global promotion and advocacy for clean energy development, Xindafang will actively align with national strategies, Accelerate cultivation New-quality productive forces, Boldly take on challenges and dare to innovate, thereby providing greater technological and equipment support for the large-scale, deep-water development of China’s offshore wind power.

Project details: The “Mingyang Tiancheng” is an independently developed wind turbine by Mingyang Group, a global leader in offshore wind power, and has achieved several world-first innovations. Its floating foundation is the first in the world to be constructed using ultra-high-performance concrete with a compressive strength exceeding 115 MPa; the floatation modules employ a groundbreaking “glass-fiber shell + XPS core + protective coating” design, also a world first. In addition, the aerodynamic twin-tower nacelle, dual-generator configuration, dual-rotor design, and the use of cable-stayed support systems are all world-firsts. Furthermore, it is the world’s first wind turbine to adopt a downwind configuration, which can reduce the ultimate load on the support structure by approximately 40%.

● For the first time, ultra-high-performance concrete with a strength exceeding 115 MPa is used.

● First-ever pontoon featuring a “glass-fiber shell + XPS core + protective coating” design

● For the first time, a design featuring airfoil-shaped twin towers, dual nacelles, and dual rotor blades is adopted.

●First use of a cable-stayed system

● The world’s first wind turbine featuring a downwind design
