Track-laying on the main line of the Chengdu–Yibin High-Speed Railway has been successfully completed.

On July 10, at the track-laying site of the double-track superbridge on the Third Ring Expressway Interchange in Chengdu, the steady placement of a pair of 500-meter-long rails marked the successful completion of track laying on the main line of the Chengdu–Yibin High-Speed Railway, a project in which China Railway Fourteenth Bureau, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation, played a key role, thereby laying the foundation for the early opening of the entire line.

The Chengdu–Yibin High-Speed Railway is a high-speed rail line within Sichuan Province that connects Chengdu, Zigong, and Yibin, and is a national As an important component of the Beijing–Kunming corridor within the “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed railway network, this line spans approximately 260 kilometers and is designed for a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour. China Railway Fourteenth Bureau has undertaken track-laying work along about 580 kilometers of the line, including mainline track installation as well as construction of 13.8 kilometers of connecting tracks and 162 sets of turnouts.

To minimize land occupation, the Chengdu–Yibin High-Speed Railway does not establish a dedicated track-laying base; instead, it employs a “pull-and-lay” approach using two long-rail transport hubs in Xinxing Town and Luzhou, namely After the 500-meter-long rail is transported to the site by high-speed train T11, it is laid directly onto the track. This approach poses significant challenges to transportation logistics and construction coordination.

To address the challenges of long-rail transportation, the construction team held numerous coordination meetings and undertook targeted technical research to tackle multiple construction hurdles, taking into account the high tunnel-to-track ratio along the entire Chengdu–Yibin High-Speed Railway and the numerous signal-dead zones along the route.

Track-laying personnel, through research and the development of technical plans for loading, as well as key parameters such as traction weight, traction method, and operating speed, have resolved Transporting 500-meter-long rails along the existing ballasted passenger-dedicated line presents significant logistical challenges. To address this, an innovative approach was adopted: using a large rail-laying train in conjunction with long-rail traction units, with four DF8B locomotives providing opposing-pull power and employing a cross-combination of rail-laying pushers. This method effectively resolved the issues of frequent track-breaking points and discontinuous rail laying, thereby ensuring the smooth progress of the rail-laying operation.

To ensure the safety of construction personnel in long tunnels, the project team has implemented an engineering dispatch and command management system that enables communication and positioning within the tunnel. In addition, each locomotive is equipped with a three-way catalytic converter and is coupled to a flatcar fitted with ventilation fans, thereby preventing the accumulation of carbon monoxide generated during locomotive operation inside the tunnel and further safeguarding track-laying transportation and on-site construction operations.

At present, construction of the Chengdu–Yibin High-Speed Railway has entered its final sprint phase. Upon completion, the line will connect with the Chongqing–Kunming, Chengdu–Guiyang, and Guiyang–Guangzhou high-speed railways, thereby forming a major high-speed rail corridor linking Chengdu with Kunming, Guiyang, and Guangzhou. This will further enhance passenger transport exchanges among the regions along the route, shorten travel times and distances, and strengthen the overall structure of the railway network.
