What is a flatbed truck?

Flatbed truck The vehicle is about five feet long and a little over two feet high. The frame and the cargo platform are made of flat planks, each bearing a different serial number. It has wooden axles and relatively large wheels, each about one foot and five inches in diameter. In the past, wooden wheels were uncommon in rural areas; most have since been replaced with rubber tires.

Flatcars are electric track-mounted transport vehicles used within rail-bound factories. They are also known as electric flatcars, electric carts, or bridge carts. These vehicles feature a simple structure, ease of operation, straightforward maintenance, high load-carrying capacity, and low environmental impact. They are widely employed in mechanical manufacturing and metallurgical plants for transporting heavy loads across bridges within workshops using overhead cranes. The KP series of electric flatcars boasts a low profile, a reinforced deck, easy retrofitting, and convenient maintenance.

Flatbed trucks are a common type of vehicle in road transportation. Their ease of loading and unloading large, heavy cargo, combined with their ability to carry more freight than other vehicles of the same specifications, makes them highly favored by transport companies. Within the category of transport vehicles, flatbeds are generally divided into two types: standard flatbeds and high-low flatbeds. Standard flatbeds typically range in length from 4 to 13 meters, while vehicles longer than 13 meters are usually high-low models.

Flatbed carts are commonly used for carrying both people and goods. When driving, the “cart strap” tied between the two handles is slung over the shoulder, with both hands firmly gripping the handles and the body leaning slightly forward as the cart is pulled along the road. On uphill stretches or on slippery surfaces, a helper can tie a rope to the right-hand handle near the shoulder and either pull the cart or push it from behind. Typically, the cart interior is fitted with two or three removable partitions to prevent small debris such as manure or crops from spilling out. In northern Shaanxi, the “water cart” used for hauling water is even simpler than the flatbed cart: it has longer handles and higher wheels than the tray-style cart, making it easier to turn and helping maintain balance during movement. At folk markets and temple fairs, flatbed carts are often piled high with merchandise and arranged along both sides of the street, serving as convenient mobile stalls for vendors.
