Introduction to the Double-Girder Bridge Erection Machine

Red Flag Bridge erector The Xinghe and Liaoyuan bridge-erection machines fall into this category, with a lifting capacity of 130 tonnes. Their boom consists of left and right box girders that run the full length of the machine body and extend outward to the front and rear ends. At both ends are folding columns composed of two legs. The center-to-center spacing of the Hongqi girder is 3.4 meters, while that of the Liaoyuan Huo girder is 4.8 meters. Two trusses span the two box girders and can move longitudinally along the boom. The crane trolley is mounted on the truss carriage and can travel laterally along the truss carriage. The girder segments (or entire girders) to be supported can be delivered directly by rail flatcars to the rear boom of the bridge-erection machine, where they are lifted by the crane trolley, advanced by the truss trolley, transversely moved by the crane trolley, and then lowered into position. With this type of bridge-erection machine, both the front and rear booms can be used for hanging operations; when changing the orientation of the frame girders, there is no need to turn the machine around; to accommodate curved-girder erection, the front and rear booms can swing in the horizontal plane; during the erection process, the transverse girders can be placed in position without moving them or changing the method of handling; and “feeding” the girders does not require bridge forks or dedicated girder transport vehicles.

Once girder erection is completed, track-laying can commence immediately, allowing the bridge-erection machine to continue advancing. The latter two types of bridge-erection machines are typically capable of lifting pre-assembled rail sections into position, thereby avoiding delays to girder erection caused by track-laying.

In addition to the aforementioned permanent bridge-launching girders, construction units sometimes design and fabricate various temporary bridge-launching systems as needed. For example, during the construction of the southern approach span of the Jiujiang Bridge, a dedicated 300-ton capacity bridge-launching girder was fabricated, enabling the full-span erection of 40-meter-long prestressed concrete box girders without ballast or sleepers. Furthermore, some construction firms frequently employ standing steel scaffolding poles, detachable transverse beams, or military-grade transverse beams to assemble simple bridge-launching rigs, thereby ensuring timely completion of bridge-erection tasks.
