Operating Procedures for Bridge Erection Machines

   Bridge erector Operating procedures:

1. The specified elevations on both sides of the longitudinal running rails for the bridge-launching girder erector shall be horizontally stable. The transverse travel paths of the front, middle, and rear legs shall be horizontal, and their spacing shall be strictly controlled. All three rails must be parallel.

  2. During the installation of concrete girders on skew bridges, the front, middle, and rear support legs of the girder-launching gantry must be aligned, with the left and right wheels staggered in the fore-and-aft direction. The spacing can be calculated based on the skew angle to ensure that the support legs operate on the same transverse track (for specific details, please contact the manufacturer).

  3. All preparatory work for the longitudinal movement of the bridge-launching girder must be completed in one go, with no interruptions allowed.

  4. When the bridge-launching gantry’s trolley is carrying a concrete girder and moving longitudinally, the support legs of the front support frame shall be securely tensioned and fixed using 5-ton manual chain hoists and transverse track tensioners to enhance stability.

  5. When the bridge has longitudinal grades in both the upward and downward directions, the girder-launching gantry must be equipped with measures to prevent longitudinal slippage. For example, triangular steel blocks can be used to protect the wheels at the front and rear; special attention should be paid to control during gear changes, particularly when the middle leg is very close to the beam end.

  6. After the bridge-erection machine has been assembled, the crane must be re-hoisted, or a trial lift must be conducted using concrete girders, before the bridge-erection machine is positioned and installation operations can commence.

  7. During the installation of the bridge-launching girder, safety inspections must be carried out at all times. A comprehensive safety inspection must be performed for each span before installation can proceed; if any issues are identified, work must be halted and addressed promptly before resuming. Neither mechanical nor electrical failures are permitted.

  8. Installation work shall not be operated beyond its rated capacity, nor shall inclined lifting be performed.

  9. The material for pin connections shall be processed in accordance with the design drawings; substitution with lower-strength materials is prohibited.

  10. It is strictly prohibited to carry out operations in winds of Force 10 or higher, or in winds of Force 5 or higher. Slinging equipment must be used to stabilize the bridge-launching girder and to hoist the overhead crane. When the bridge-launching girder is not in operation, the power supply must be disconnected to prevent accidents.

  11. The longitudinal positioning dimensions of the bridge-launching girder must be strictly controlled to ensure the smooth installation and placement of precast concrete girders.

  12. As bridge-erection cranes are large-scale specialized equipment used for bridge installation, their operation must be characterized by clear division of responsibilities and unified command, with dedicated operators, electricians, and safety inspectors assigned to the task. A rigorous construction organization and comprehensive safety measures must be in place to ensure construction safety.
