“Skill Competition Showcases Expertise; Competitive Events Strive for Excellence” — The 2022 Employee Skills Competition at Xindafang Concludes Successfully
Xin Dafang News: To motivate and guide the broad ranks of industrial workers to diligently study and master technical skills, thereby accelerating the development of a large, skilled, innovative, and mature production workforce, Xin Dafang regularly organizes large-scale skill competitions and intensive training exercises. On April 28 and 29, the “2022 Employee Skills Competition” hosted by Xin Dafang concluded successfully after intense contests.
A total of 122 employees took part in this large-scale skills competition, which covered five trades: welder, gas cutter, fitter, lathe operator, and electrician. This marks the largest scale and most comprehensive range of trades ever featured in a staff skills contest. The competition was divided into a theoretical examination and a practical assessment, with the theoretical score accounting for 30% of the total and the practical score accounting for 70%.
On the afternoon of April 28, prior to the official commencement of the theoretical examination, the opening ceremony for the “Employee Skills Competition” was held. The event was attended by the General Manager of the Production and Manufacturing Center, the Chief Engineer of the Technical Center, the Deputy Chief Engineers, the Head of the Production Technology Department, the Head of the Quality Management Department, as well as all judges and contestants.
Opening Ceremony
Du Xichang, General Manager of the Production and Manufacturing Center, delivered the opening address. He stated that skilled employees are a vital force supporting the company’s manufacturing and innovation, playing an irreplaceable role in accelerating industrial optimization and upgrading, enhancing corporate competitiveness, promoting Innovation, and facilitating the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. This skills competition provides a crucial platform for technical workers to showcase their superb skills and exchange expertise on the same stage. He urged everyone to fully demonstrate their abilities—those with strong skills should boldly display their talents and strive for new heights, while those with weaker skills should courageously acknowledge their shortcomings and identify areas for improvement—thereby fostering a positive atmosphere of “learning through competition and enhancing capabilities through competition” and elevating the overall operational skills of the production team to a new level.
Accordingly, the “Employee Skills Competition” officially kicked off at the LiKao examination center. Contestants carefully read the questions, thought calmly, analyzed their answers meticulously, and strived to achieve the best possible results.
As a heavy-industry manufacturing sector, welding technology is one of the most critical technologies in steel-structure engineering. This competition will conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on multiple criteria, including the visual quality of the welded test specimens, the internal quality of the welds (assessed through ultrasonic testing to detect defects such as cracks, porosity, and lack of fusion), and control of specimen deformation.
Tool-and-die work is also an indispensable part of the competition. Contestants demonstrate their exceptional skills in meeting stringent requirements for dimensional accuracy, geometric tolerances, and surface finish—sawing, drilling, hammering—each step seamlessly linked to the next, thereby showcasing the true artistry of craftsmanship.
Other electricians, machinists, and gas-cutters all perform on-site machining to complete the prescribed examination workpieces within the allotted time, with the final evaluation based on a comprehensive assessment of the contestants’ machining processes, including process quality, efficiency, and overall workmanship.
This skills competition is designed to foster a positive environment characterized by “emphasizing and learning technical skills, mutual learning, healthy competition, and striving for excellence,” thereby providing a platform for employees to showcase their abilities. It serves not only as a showcase of technical expertise but also as an assessment of workers’ skill levels, inspiring frontline technicians to enhance their technical proficiency. As a result, it lays a solid foundation for comprehensively elevating the overall skill level of the production workforce, boosting productivity, and improving product quality.
