Xindafang’s independently developed 1,800-ton beam transporter and girder launcher—the world’s largest in terms of tonnage—have been put into operation.

Xin Dafang News: Recently, news emerged from the construction site of the Kuwait Cross-Sea Bridge project that Xin Dafang’s independently developed 1,800-ton transport and girder-lifting vehicle—the world’s largest in terms of lifting capacity—has been fully assembled and put into operation.

The Kuwait Trans-Sea Bridge, with a total length of 36.14 km, is the fourth-longest bridge in the world. It features 60-meter spans and single-box girders weighing 1,800 tonnes each—making it the largest precast box girders in the world to date that are constructed using bridge-launching gantries and girder transport vehicles. Given Kuwait’s location in a hot, arid desert region, the local construction environment is exceptionally challenging, and the bridge project involves multiple spans, tight curves, and offshore operations, all of which present complex engineering conditions. Consequently, the project design adopts a precast, segmental erection approach, making it one of the most technically demanding landmark projects in the industry. In early 2014, Xindafang emerged victorious by securing the contract with the highest overall technical score, defeating leading international firms from Europe and North America. The company was awarded the contract to supply a complete set of equipment for the Kuwait Gulf Bridge project, including one 1,800-ton bridge-launching gantry, two 1,800-ton girder transport vehicles, two 1,800-ton girder-lifting cranes, and 16 gantry cranes, with a total contract value of approximately RMB 260 million.

As stipulated in the contract, this batch of equipment arrived in Kuwait in stages by the end of September last year. Among them, the first 16 gantry cranes to arrive have been in operation for nearly one year and are functioning smoothly; the girder-erection cranes and girder transport vehicles were put into service immediately after assembly. In addition, the final set of 1,800-ton bridge-erection machines is now ready for assembly and is expected to be fully assembled and commissioned by March 2016.
