“The New Dafang-made” World’s Largest Tonnage Bridge-Erecting Machine Successfully Completes Load Testing and Meets Factory-Release Standards

Xindafang News: On November 24, the 1,800-ton bridge-erection machine and girder transporter independently developed by Xindafang completed pre-delivery heavy-load tests at the 20,000-square-meter test site in the Xindafang Industrial Park in Zhengzhou. The equipment is scheduled to be shipped by year-end to the construction site of Kuwait’s Fourth Cross-Sea Bridge—the world’s fourth such project—and will be put into operation in March next year.

The construction environment for the Kuwait Trans-Sea Bridge is highly complex, characterized by a hot, arid desert climate and challenging operational conditions such as multiple spans, tight curve radii, and offshore operations. The project’s design adopts a precast segmental erection method, making it one of the most technically demanding landmark projects in the industry. With a total length of 36.14 km, approximately 22.3 km of the bridge will be constructed using this specialized equipment. The bridge is designed with 60-meter spans and individual box girders weighing 1,800 tonnes—making them the heaviest precast box girders in the world currently erected using bridge erectors and girder transporters. The successful development of this equipment underscores the strong international competitiveness of “Made in Henan” and signifies that Zhengzhou Xindafang has now reached the forefront of global technology and manufacturing capabilities in large-scale bridge-construction equipment.

The Kuwait Trans-Sea Bridge Project is a highway bridge construction project undertaken by Hyundai Engineering & Construction of South Korea, a Fortune Global 500 company. In the 2013 equipment procurement tender for this project, Xindafang, as a long-standing and trusted partner of Hyundai, secured the contract by achieving the highest overall score in the technical evaluation, thereby defeating leading international firms from Europe and North America. Xindafang will supply a complete set of equipment for the Kuwait Gulf Bridge Project, including one 1,800-ton bridge erector, two 1,800-ton girder transporters, two 1,800-ton girder lifters, and 16 small gantry cranes, with a total contract value of RMB 250 million.

The 1,800-ton bridge-erection machine and girder transporter that successfully passed this trial are the project’s most critical and essential pieces of equipment. The project manager from Hyundai Engineering & Construction of South Korea, along with the chief engineer serving as the consultant and owner’s representative for the Kuwait Cross-Sea Bridge Project, participated in the trial and acceptance process. They stated that the equipment’s technical performance, on-site operational speed, and coordination all fully meet their requirements. They expressed great satisfaction that Xindafang was able to complete the equipment development and load testing to a high standard within the contract period, and they are highly confident that this equipment will play a pivotal role in the construction of the world’s fourth cross-sea bridge.

Meanwhile, the load test of the world’s largest-tonnage bridge-launching machine has also drawn extensive attention from mainstream provincial media outlets, including Henan Television, Zhengzhou Television, Henan Daily, Zhengzhou Daily, and Henan Workers’ Daily, which have provided comprehensive coverage and in-depth reporting on the entire experiment.

The bridge-launching machine has successfully completed the load test and is now ready for delivery.
