Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress, Visits Xin Dafang for Research
Xin Dafang News: At the end of 2013, Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress and former President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with experts from the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering and other relevant organizations, visited Xin Dafang for on-site research during an inspection tour in Henan Province focused on the “Strategy for Developing Design Innovation.”
As an internationally renowned hydraulics expert, Chairman Lu, accompanied by Chairman Zhang Zhihua, first visited the Production and Manufacturing Center, where he toured several newly upgraded and transformed products developed in-house, including aircraft container handling platforms, aircraft tug tractors, hydraulic support vehicles, segment transport rubber-tyred vehicles, and tidal flat vehicles. He carefully inquired about the design and operational performance of these products’ braking and hydraulic systems. At the production site, Chairman Lu also listened to a briefing from Zhang Zhihua on the company’s operations, innovation, R&D capabilities, and manufacturing qualifications, which greatly pleased him. He remarked that China’s manufacturing sector is globally leading, yet there are still relatively few enterprises that rely on independent innovation; most are merely processing-oriented firms lacking core technologies of their own. In this context, it is truly remarkable that Xindafang, as a private enterprise, demonstrates such a strong commitment to technological advancement and, through independent innovation, has filled domestic gaps and broken foreign monopolies in numerous fields.
At the subsequent symposium, Lu Yongxiang inquired with great concern about the company’s current operating conditions and the difficulties it was facing, and expressed his hopes for its future development. He praised Xindafang for two outstanding merits: first, it has brought honor to the country and benefits to the people. He said that through innovation, Xindafang has elevated China’s level of specialized construction equipment to a new height, undertaking tasks that large state-owned enterprises are reluctant to take on and assuming risks that state-owned enterprises are unwilling to bear. It has provided technological and equipment support for major national projects such as high-speed railways, expressways, and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, doing good deeds that benefit the nation, society, and the people, which makes him very happy and deeply moved; second, it operates flexibly and leverages its strengths. He noted that private enterprises have their own characteristics and flexibility, and Xindafang has fully capitalized on this advantage by closely following market changes, promptly adjusting its industrial structure, and formulating strategic directions. By using innovation to lead corporate development and capture the commanding heights of the industry, Xindafang has become an advanced representative of domestic private enterprises that rely on scientific and technological innovation to achieve success.
Regarding the company’s future development, Chairman Lu put forward two recommendations: First, given the limited size of the domestic market, the company must adopt a long-term strategic vision and align its product R&D and design, employee training, and management practices with international standards to lay a solid foundation for expanding into global markets. Second, as international markets impose extremely stringent requirements, meticulous attention to detail is essential; it would be advisable to install environmental testing equipment prior to shipment to simulate local climate and operating conditions, thoroughly replicating every conceivable scenario to ensure absolute reliability. Only in this way can products exported abroad truly live up to the “Made in China” label.
Finally, the Chairperson emphasized that the state encourages enterprises to take the lead in undertaking R&D projects. It is hoped that, in its future development, the company will steadfastly pursue continuous innovation, strive to secure a commanding position in innovation, achieve new breakthroughs in critical and key technological fields, and further emancipate its thinking and pioneer new approaches. The company should endeavor to serve as a trailblazer in independent innovation and a leader in transformation and upgrading, leveraging technological innovation, industrial innovation, and institutional innovation to promote the healthy and rapid development of high-tech enterprises in our province.
