Two Railway Projects in Jiangsu Province Achieve New Progress

Railway construction is “accelerating,” painting a new chapter across the mountains and rivers. On June 24, a reporter from Xinhua Daily’s Jiaohuidian learned from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Transport that new progress has been made on the construction of the Tongzhou–Suzhou–Jiaxing–Ningbo High-Speed Railway and the Yancheng–Taizhou–Xishan–Wuxi–Changzhou–Yixing Railway.

Closure of the Main Span of the Continuous Girder for the Niu Changjing Crossing on the Su-Nan Special Bridge of the Tongzhou–Suzhou–Jiaxing–Ningbo High-Speed Railway

Recently, the main span of the continuous girder over the Niuchangjing River on the Sunan Special Bridge of the Tongzhou–Suzhou–Jiaxing–Ningbo High-Speed Railway was successfully closed.

The Sunan Grand Bridge spans Wuzhong and Wujiang districts of Suzhou, with a total length of 25 kilometers. It crosses numerous existing highways, rivers and lakes, residential areas, industrial plants, and other structures, posing high technical requirements, significant construction challenges, and substantial safety risks, making it one of the key control projects for the Tongzhou–Suzhou–Jiaxing–Ningbo Railway. The continuous girder spanning Niuchangjing, which was precisely joined in this operation, has a total length of 329.6 meters and adopts a span arrangement of (84+160+84) meters. It spans the Grade VI navigation channel of Niuchangjing, with the main bridge structure featuring a single-box, double-cell cross-sectional design and constructed using the cantilever method in staged segments.

To date, construction of the Sunan Special Bridge on the Tongzhou–Suzhou–Jiaxing–Ningbo High-Speed Railway is progressing smoothly. Of the 25-kilometer bridge project, pile foundations are 87.85% complete, pier caps are 80.71% complete, and piers are 78.86% complete; among the 23 continuous girders, four have already been closed, 14 have entered the superstructure construction phase, and the cumulative completion rate has exceeded 50%.

The Tongzhou–Jiaxing–Ningbo High-Speed Railway is a key component of the coastal corridor within China’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network. The line originates in Nantong City, passes through Suzhou and Jiaxing, crosses Hangzhou Bay to enter Ningbo City, and features a newly constructed section spanning 301 kilometers. Of this, the Wujiang section stretches approximately 21 kilometers and traverses the Fenhu High-tech Industrial Development Zone and Tongli Town.

Construction Begins on the Jiangyin Section of the Yantai–Taizhou–Xishan–Changzhou–Yixing Railway

Recently, the first bored pile for the Jiangyin section of the Yantai–Taizhou–Xishan–Changzhou–Yixing Railway, constructed by Section 8 of the Station Front Project under China Railway No.1 Engineering Group, was successfully drilled.

The Jiangyin section of the Yantai–Taizhou–Xishan–Changzhou–Yixing Railway has a total mainline length of 17 kilometers. The first pile construction for this project is being carried out on the Jiangyin right-line super-large bridge over Xiakke Avenue, with a design pile length of 41.5 meters and a pile diameter of 1.0 meter. To date, Section 8 of the pre-station works for the Yantai–Taizhou–Xishan–Changzhou–Yixing Railway has completed the construction of the concrete mixing station, rebar yard, and central laboratory, and is scheduled to commence main structure construction within the year while also completing the remaining temporary facilities, including construction access roads, trestle bridges, and power trunk lines.

The Yancheng–Taizhou–Wuxi–Changzhou–Yixing Railway is a vital north–south link in the national “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network and a backbone line of Jiangsu’s “Six Vertical and Six Horizontal” high-speed rail network. The main line spans 311 kilometers, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It originates in Yancheng City in the north, passes through Taizhou City in the central section, crosses the Yangtze River, then continues via Wuxi City and Changzhou City before terminating in Yixing City. Upon completion, the railway will play a crucial role in strengthening the national coastal high-speed rail corridor, advancing integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and promoting balanced, cross-river development between northern and southern Jiangsu.
