Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway: Chongqing East to Qianjiang Section Opens for Service

According to a report by China National Radio’s “News and Newspaper Digest,” the newly built Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway has today (the 27th) opened for service on the Chongqing East–Qianjiang section, fully connecting the Chongqing East–Changsha segment of the Chongqing–Xiamen HSR. This development makes it commonplace to enjoy a bowl of small noodles in the morning and a serving of rice noodles at noon when traveling between cities, while further strengthening connectivity between the Chengdu–Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle and the Changsha–Zhuzhou–Tan urban agglomeration.

The Chongqing–Qianjiang section of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway has a total length of 242 kilometers, a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, and seven stations along the line: Chongqing East, Banan, Nanchuan North, Shuixi West, Wulong South, Pengshui West, and Qianjiang.

Yang Zhiyong, Commander of the Wulong Command Center of the Chongqing–Guizhou–Chongqing–Wanzhou Railway Company: The construction of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway has innovatively adopted standardized process management and advanced construction techniques, equipment, and tooling, resulting in the completion of a number of challenging and critical projects, including the Wulong Taiziping Wujiang River Railway Bridge and the Baima Mountain Tunnel.

Following the opening of the Chongqing–Qianjiang section of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway, the railway authorities will operate passenger trains according to both regular and peak-hour schedules. Travel from Chongqing East to Qianjiang and Changsha will take as little as 61 minutes and 3 hours and 53 minutes, respectively. In addition, high-speed EMU services on the Chengdu–Chongqing–Zhangjiajie route will be launched for the first time, with journey times of as little as 3 hours and 58 minutes and 2 hours and 2 minutes, respectively.

Liu Wei, Deputy Director of the Passenger Transport Workshop at Chengdu East Station: Up to 54 high-speed train sets operate daily. On the Chongqing–Qianjiang section of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway, we have implemented a flexible, differentiated, market-oriented fare system to offer passengers more travel options.

Chongqing East Station, the largest high-speed rail hub in western China, which has been under construction for more than three years, also officially began operations today.
