Approval Granted by China State Railway Group for the Connection of the Newly Constructed Nanchong–Guang’an Railway

According to the Shudao Railway Investment Group, on June 30, the connection of the newly constructed Nanchong–Guang’an Railway was approved by China State Railway Group.

The approval for connection to the national railway network is a critical step in the preliminary approval process for local railway projects. Despite numerous challenges—including multiple property-rights holders, extensive coordination requirements, and complex asset relationships—the project successfully secured approval on schedule after two rounds of expert pre-reviews conducted jointly by the Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission and Shudao Group in collaboration with the governments of Nanchong and Guang’an, followed by reviews by 16 departments of the Chengdu Railway Bureau Group and 11 departments of China State Railway Group. This achievement sets a new record for the fastest approval of a local railway project connection in Sichuan Province.

The newly constructed Nanchong–Guang’an Railway is located in the eastern-central part of the Sichuan Basin, connecting the cities of Nanchong and Guang’an, with a design speed of 250 km/h. Upon completion, the travel time between Guang’an and Chengdu will be reduced from 2.8 hours to 1.3 hours, and the travel time between Nanchong and Chongqing will be shortened from 1.3 hours to 0.9 hours.

The project’s route originates at the Qiangjiawan Signal Box on the under-construction Han–Ba–Nan Railway section at the eastern end of Nanchong North Station, passes through Shunqing District and Gaoping District of Nanchong City, as well as Yuechi County and Guang’an District of Guang’an City, and terminates at Guang’an East Station in Huaying City, which is currently under construction. The project includes the construction of one new Gaoping Station and the renovation and repurposing of four existing stations: Nanchong North Station, Yuechi Station, Guang’an South Station, and Guang’an East Station. The newly constructed section spans 84 kilometers, is designed for a speed of 250 kilometers per hour, and has a total investment of RMB 19.53 billion.
