The 12th World High-Speed Rail Congress Concludes Successfully in Beijing; The 17th China International Exhibition on Modern Railway Technology and Equipment Closes on the Same Day
On the afternoon of July 10, the 12th World High-Speed Rail Congress, co-hosted by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and the International Union of Railways (UIC), successfully concluded all its agenda items and closed at the National Convention Center in Beijing, China. Delegates highly commended the rapid development and remarkable achievements of China’s high-speed rail in recent years, reached broad consensus on major issues concerning the innovative development of high-speed rail in the future, and pledged to take this congress as a new starting point to further deepen international exchanges and cooperation, promote technological transformation and innovation in the railway sector, and make new contributions to the advancement of the global high-speed rail industry and the well-being of all humanity. Concurrently, the 17th China International Modern Railway Technology and Equipment Exhibition, organized by the China Academy of Railway Sciences Group Co., Ltd. and China International Trade Center Co., Ltd., also closed in Beijing on the same day.
This edition of the World High-Speed Rail Congress brought together more than 2,000 government officials, foreign envoys accredited to China, corporate executives, and academic and industry experts from member countries of the International Union of Railways as well as from over 60 other countries, regions, and international organizations. The high caliber and broad scope of the attendees yielded a series of significant outcomes, generating widespread positive impact across the global high-speed rail sector.
Bringing together global expertise to discuss the future of high-speed rail. Participants engaged in in-depth dialogue around the theme “High-Speed Rail: Innovative Development for a Better Life.” Leaders from the International Union of Railways and China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. presented overviews of the development of high-speed rail worldwide and in China, highlighting successful cases and key lessons learned. National representatives and subject-matter experts from countries with newly built high-speed rail networks then convened focused discussions on the theme “New Frontiers in High-Speed Rail,” analyzing future prospects and major directions for the sector. The event featured two roundtable forums and 30 technical exchange sessions, during which more than 200 executives and scholars from railway companies and research institutions across the globe delivered presentations and shared cutting-edge innovations in the field of high-speed rail. In addition, the conference received over 700 paper submissions from 27 countries, regions, and international organizations, bringing together a wealth of forward-looking and innovative insights that offer valuable guidance for the future of high-speed rail innovation and development.
Showcasing cutting-edge technologies and highlighting the dynamism of the industry, the 17th China International Modern Railway Technology and Equipment Exhibition, held concurrently with the conference, drew 521 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions, including Germany, France, the United States, Italy, and Canada. The event featured the concentrated unveiling of a range of pioneering technologies and high-end equipment, such as intelligent drone-based railway inspection systems. Thirty innovative rolling stock models, including the CR450 Fuxing high-speed train and maglev trains, were put on display at the National Railway Testing Center, while six key national railway laboratories opened their doors to the public, drawing large crowds of visitors. In total, the exhibition showcased more than 30,000 exhibits and attracted 72,000 visitor visits, offering the public a unique window into the future of high-speed rail technology. For the first time, the event included an “Artificial Intelligence” zone, showcasing achievements in intelligent construction, smart equipment, and intelligent operations. A host of specialized robots and other smart devices made a striking appearance, underscoring China’s latest breakthroughs in the development of intelligent high-speed rail.
Strengthening exchanges and cooperation to promote mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. During the conference, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. signed cooperation agreements with the railway authorities of France, Spain, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Laos, Malaysia, and other countries, reaching broad consensus on cross-border transport and international exchange and cooperation. These agreements will vigorously advance regional connectivity and inject new momentum into the high-quality joint development of the Belt and Road Initiative. The conference was also rich in cultural atmosphere, featuring captivating performances of Peking Opera—the quintessence of Chinese culture—alongside traditional lacquer fan-making, rubbings, calligraphy, paper-cutting, and other time-honored Chinese cultural activities. These diverse cultural offerings drew representatives from around the world to pause and appreciate, as well as to actively participate, thereby building a bridge for cultural exchange and mutual learning amidst a feast of technological innovation.
At the closing ceremony of the conference, the UIC High-Speed Rail University Alliance announced the list of winning teams in the hackathon competition, showcased the award-winning projects, and presented the awards. The conference organizing committee then summarized the key outcomes of this edition, outlined a vision for the future of high-speed rail, and shared highlights from the event through a video presentation.
