Phase II of Zhengzhou Metro Line 3 Officially Opens for Service
Phase II of Line 3 has a total length of 6.316 kilometers and serves as a southward extension of Phase I. It begins at Yinggang Station, runs along the 17th Avenue of the Economic Development Zone and the 15th Avenue of the Economic Development Zone, and terminates at the intersection of Jingnan 15th Road. The phase includes four stations: Chaohé Station, Binhe New City Station, Sizhao Station, and Binhe New City South Station.
Line 3, vividly dubbed the “space-time tunnel,” serves as a vital transportation artery that runs diagonally across Zhengzhou’s urban area from northwest to southeast. The first phase of the project was jointly funded and operated by China State Construction, Shenzhen Metro, and Zhengzhou Metro, making it Henan Province’s first PPP–based urban rail transit line. Since its opening on December 26, 2020 (data as of September 7, 2023), Line 3’s first phase has accumulated 6.3806 million train-kilometers, carried a total of 111.862 million passenger trips, achieved an average daily ridership of 120,300 passengers, and recorded a peak single-day ridership of 234,400. A total of 256,500 train services have been operated, with a punctuality rate of 99.98% and a timetable adherence rate of 100%. All service performance indicators surpass national standards.
At 9:58 a.m., the four stations on Phase II of Line 3 officially opened their doors to passengers. Under the guidance of station staff, commuters entered the stations and boarded trains in an orderly manner. At the launch ceremony, guests and media representatives also boarded the inaugural train—number 0333—for a trial ride. As they enjoyed the comfort and convenience of subway travel, everyone eagerly captured this special moment with their smartphones.
The new and old urban areas are now linked by a single line, as the “butterfly dance” along the riverbank ushers in a new chapter. As a vital link connecting Binhe New City with the old urban area, Phase II of Line 3, once opened, will further upgrade Zhengzhou’s urban functions and quality, injecting stronger momentum into the future development of Binhe New City. The operator, Zhengzhou CSCEC-Shenzhen Metro Rail Transit Co., Ltd., will continue to uphold the “Smart & Caring Service” brand philosophy, putting passenger needs first, ensuring safe and reliable operations, and delivering smart, thoughtful, and heartfelt service to make travel in this green city even more enjoyable.
