China’s first cross-sea high-speed railway designed for 350 km/h has begun trial operations!
Morning of August 31
Train G55501 departs from Fuzhou South Station.
Marks the Ningbo–Guangzhou High-Speed Railway
Fuzhou–Xiamen–Zhangzhou section
(hereinafter referred to as Fuzhou–Xiamen High-Speed Railway )
Officially entering the operational trial phase
The Fuzhou–Xiamen High-Speed Railway is now in the final countdown to full line opening and operation.

Operational testing is the final and critical step before high-speed rail lines are opened to service. Following joint commissioning and trial operations, this phase involves testing train timetable parameters, conducting fault simulations, carrying out emergency rescue drills, and performing scheduled-train operation trials, among other activities. These tests simulate the line’s official operating conditions, providing a comprehensive “real-world” assessment of high-speed rail transport organization, train arrival and departure procedures, service frequency, equipment status, and other key aspects, thereby furnishing a scientific basis for the official commencement of operations.

Construction of the Fuzhou–Xiamen High-Speed Railway commenced in September 2017. In July 2021, all mainline tunnels were fully bored through, and by August 2022, track-laying along the entire line was completed. Throughout the construction phase, the project’s developers and contractors adopted scientific construction practices and tackled challenging technical hurdles, successfully overcoming complex natural terrain—including the railway’s passage through numerous mountain ranges and its crossing of multiple bays—while rigorously meeting key schedule milestones to ensure the project progressed in an orderly manner. At present, the joint commissioning and trial operations for the Fuzhou–Xiamen HSR have been successfully concluded, station building construction along the entire line has been completed, and the project has now entered the operational testing phase. With overall work nearing completion, final preparations are underway for the official opening and operation of the railway.

The Fuzhou–Xiamen High-Speed Railway stretches from Fuzhou in the north, through Putian and Quanzhou, to Xiamen and Zhangzhou in the south. It connects with the Hefei–Fuzhou and Wenzhou–Fuzhou railways at its northern end and with the Xiamen–Shenzhen and Longyan–Xiamen railways at its southern end. With a total length of 277.42 kilometers, it is China’s first cross-sea high-speed railway designed for speeds of 350 kilometers per hour and is slated to be ready for operation within this year.

The Fuzhou–Xiamen High-Speed Railway is a vital component of the coastal corridor within China’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network. Upon completion and opening to traffic, Fuzhou and Xiamen will be integrated into a one-hour commuting circle, while the Minnan “Golden Triangle” comprising Xiamen, Zhangzhou, and Quanzhou will form a half-hour transportation hub. Moreover, the southeastern coastal urban agglomeration will be linked by a “golden tourism belt,” which will play a significant role in supporting the national Belt and Road Initiative and accelerating the rapid development of the southeastern coastal urban cluster.
