What are the classification types of grab cranes, and what are their advantages and key features?

Standard configurations of grab cranes typically employ wound-rotor hoisting motors and resistance-based speed control. The specific configuration of a grab crane can be customized to meet the user’s requirements. Moreover, grab cranes come in many different types. Let’s take a closer look at the performance characteristics of each type.
Let’s start by introducing the multi-lug grab crane: it is ideal for handling and processing scrap steel in steel mills, as well as for the extraction, loading, unloading, and transportation of bulk waste at waste disposal sites and construction sites. In automotive recycling facilities, it is used for vehicle dismantling, material recovery, and recycling. The bucket teeth are replaceable and made from high-hardness, wear-resistant steel, ensuring a long service life. Depending on the specific operating environment, users can select from various valve housings, including fully enclosed, semi-enclosed, wide-edge, and narrow-edge designs.
Bucket-type grab crane: Suitable for handling various bulk cargoes, mineral products, coal, sand and gravel, earth and rock, and the like at ports, terminals, railway freight yards, mines, and other sites. It can also be used in earthwork excavation, foundation and trench excavation, highway construction, railway track-laying, and other engineering projects.
When a grab crane is used to pick up and unload materials, the operation is controlled by the operator. Typically, a grab crane can unload more than 200 tons of ore per hour. In contrast, under the previous operating method, workers manually shove the material into large mesh bags, which are then lifted by a crane. With seven workers, it would take eight hours to move just 200 tons of cargo within a single ship’s hold. The introduction of grab cranes has undoubtedly significantly reduced the heavy physical workload of workers, saved man-hours, and improved both handling efficiency and operational safety.
Multi-lug grab cranes are primarily used for handling lump or irregularly shaped bulk materials. These cranes are typically constructed from high-quality steel, featuring buckets with excellent wear resistance and high strength, as well as strong cutting capability when gripping materials. Multi-lug grabs have a wide range of applications and can be integrated with tower cranes, ship-mounted cranes, gantry cranes, and other types of lifting equipment. They are suitable for handling lump materials such as waste, stones, and scrap steel.
