Winter Maintenance for Beam Transport Vehicles

Winter weather is cold, with large diurnal temperature variations and frequent icy and snowy conditions. Such weather often causes vehicles to fail to start, and high-speed trains Beam transporter This accelerates the aging of components and, at the same time, reduces the vehicle’s driving safety. Frequent improper use of the vehicle, or failure to account for the impact of temperature differentials on mechanical parts, can lead to man-made damage and unnecessary losses. Therefore, it is crucial to carry out thorough preventive winter maintenance on large beam-transport vehicles. So how can we ensure proper winter maintenance for these vehicles? The main tasks include:

  1. Polishing the vehicle body and axles, followed by comprehensive anti-corrosion treatment for the entire vehicle.

In winter, cold, windy weather often brings heavy sand and gravel, which can easily scratch the vehicle’s paint; moreover, rainy and snowy conditions are relatively frequent, and acidic rain or snow can accelerate body corrosion. Therefore, giving a full-body touch-up paint job, waxing, or applying a mirror-like glaze to beam-transport vehicles during the winter is an effective way to protect the paint from damage. In addition, a waxed and glazed surface repels water more effectively, reducing the likelihood of ice formation in winter. During heavy snowfall, as beam-transport vehicles drive on snowy roads, their tires can easily splash highly saline slush onto the body; without proper underbody protection, this can quickly lead to corrosion and rust. For these reasons, it is essential to perform touch-up painting, glazing, and other anti-corrosion treatments before the onset of winter to better safeguard the vehicle and extend its service life.

  2. Add antifreeze to ensure the cooling system operates properly.

Due to the cold weather, temperatures often drop below freezing. In such conditions, if the engine’s cooling system uses ordinary water, it can easily freeze, which not only makes it difficult to start the vehicle but also risks damaging the engine. Statistics show that cooling-system failures are the leading cause of engine breakdowns, accounting for about 60% of all engine malfunctions. Adding antifreeze can effectively prevent the cooling system from freezing. Therefore, it is essential to replace the coolant with antifreeze in winter. In northern regions, low-freezing-point antifreeze is typically used during the winter months, as the lower the freezing point, the greater the antifreeze’s resistance to freezing. It is crucial to add the correct amount of antifreeze—adding too little will not suffice.
