Changde–Yiyang Section of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway Opens for Service

According to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., the Changde–Yiyang section of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway opened to traffic on the 26th, completing the through-service of the high-speed rail line from Changde to Changsha. With this milestone, Hunan Province’s high-speed rail ring network has now been officially established.

The Changde–Changsha section of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway has a total length of 154 kilometers and is designed for speeds of 350 kilometers per hour; it is being opened in phases. The Hunan section between Yiyang and Changsha, spanning 63 kilometers, was put into operation in September 2022. The newly opened Changde–Yiyang section, measuring 91 kilometers, began construction in June 2019.

According to Zhang Changchun, a designer at China Railway Fourth Institute of China State Railway Group, the Changde–Yiyang section of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway is a key component of the Chongqing–Xiamen corridor within China’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network. It connects with several already operational lines, including the Qianjiang–Zhangjiajie–Changde High-Speed Railway and the Changsha–Zhuzhou–Tanzhou Intercity Railway, playing a vital role as a regional connecting line and marking Hunan Province’s entry into the era of province-wide high-speed rail connectivity.

In the initial phase of the line’s operation, the railway authorities will schedule 29.5 pairs of high-speed train services. For the first time, high-speed trains will run between Zhangjiajie and Changde in Hunan Province and Changsha, with travel times from these two cities to Changsha as short as 1 hour and 52 minutes and 59 minutes, respectively.
