“China’s Strength” Shines on India’s High-Speed Rail

Xindafang News: At the end of August, at a construction site for a section of India’s high-speed railway, a brand-new Xindafang DF1100 bridge-erection machine successfully completed the installation of the first box girder. With this third such machine now in operation, India’s high-speed rail project is set to enter its intensive construction phase.

India’s first high-speed railway, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad line, spans 508 kilometers. The route runs along the coast, presenting an extremely challenging construction environment characterized by high temperature, high humidity, and high salinity, which places exceptionally stringent demands on the reliability of the track-laying equipment’s hydraulic, control, and transmission systems. Moreover, the concrete box girders used on this line range in length from 40 meters to 1,100 tons, setting a new world record for the heaviest and longest box girders in high-speed rail projects worldwide. At present, existing equipment and technologies globally are no longer capable of meeting the project’s construction requirements.

Amid intense global competition, in January 2021, Xindafang successfully won the bid for India’s first high-speed railway project, under which it will supply four sets of world-leading, 1,100-ton capacity integrated construction equipment for the handling, lifting, transportation, and erection of railway girders. To this end, Xindafang established a dedicated project task force for the Indian initiative, employing multiple technical approaches to optimize the equipment design. This enabled the company to overcome numerous critical technical challenges—such as stringent construction load requirements, the need for reliable electrical systems in complex environments, and the stability of hydraulic systems—and to develop a complete set of high-speed railway bridge construction equipment that fully meets the project’s operational conditions.

In 2021, Xindafang set the goal of “adhering to the project schedule and delivering on time,” rose to the challenge, meticulously planned, and overcame numerous obstacles—including pandemic lockdowns and severe rainstorms and flooding—while maintaining normal production operations, thereby ensuring the timely shipment of four sets of equipment.

As the project progresses, by the end of August the first bridge-launching gantry on the Xindafang section had successfully erected nearly 30 girder segments; the second gantry completed its first span crossing; the third gantry smoothly carried out its inaugural girder erection; and the final gantry is currently undergoing intensive assembly and is expected to be put into service shortly. According to on-site feedback, the equipment is operating efficiently and stably, with high safety and reliability, fully ensuring the smooth progress of the project.

Each overseas project is a major training exercise, a comprehensive review, and a grand showcase—it not only highlights a company’s overall strength, but also embodies the power and spirit of China’s private enterprises. All employees of Xindafang are committed to working in close unity, meticulous planning, scientific execution, and unwavering attention to detail, striving for excellence in every aspect. We will proactively carry out all tasks in accordance with project requirements, fighting for the Xindafang brand and for the honor of China’s private sector.
