The Puyang–Zhengzhou section of the Ji’nan–Zhengzhou High-Speed Railway opens to traffic today.

On June 20, 2022, the Puyang–Zhengzhou section of the Jinan–Zhengzhou High-Speed Railway was opened to traffic, completing the final stroke of the “rice”-shaped high-speed rail network in Henan Province and further strengthening connectivity among the cities of the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration.

The Ji–Zheng High-Speed Railway connects the provincial capitals of Shandong and Henan—Jinan and Zhengzhou—spanning a total length of approximately 407 kilometers. The newly opened Puyang–Zhengzhou section stretches 195 kilometers and was designed to a maximum operating speed of 350 kilometers per hour, with regular service maintained at 310 kilometers per hour. The line passes through Puyang, Xinxiang, and Zhengzhou, serving seven stations: Puyang East, Neihuang, Huajun, Weihui South, Xinxiang East, Xinxiang South, and Zhengzhou East. Notably, Xinxiang East Station is a reconstructed station on an existing line, while Zhengzhou East Station is an upgraded existing station.

“My parents and siblings all live in Puyang City. In the past, driving from Zhengzhou to Puyang took more than two hours. Now that the high-speed rail is open, it’s convenient, fast, and incredibly comfortable,” said Ms. Shao, a resident of Zhengzhou, visibly excited upon learning that the Puyang–Zhengzhou section of the Ji’nan–Zhengzhou High-Speed Railway is about to open.

The Puyang–Zhengzhou section of the Jizheng High-Speed Railway is located in the northeastern Henan Plain, where the line frequently traverses farmland, forested areas, livestock-breeding zones, and urban residential districts. The corridor is densely populated, placing stringent demands on environmental protection and water-conservation measures. Since construction commenced in October 2016, the railway authorities have effectively mitigated various construction risks associated with river crossings, overcome technical challenges in laying ballastless tracks on steel-structure bridges, and successfully built the Wantan Yellow River Road–Rail Bridge—the largest single-span structure over the Yellow River and the one with the highest operating speed—thereby laying a solid foundation for the completion and commissioning of the entire line.

At present, the railway authorities have begun selling tickets for high-speed train services on the Puyang–Zhengzhou section of the Jizheng High-Speed Railway. Fares range from 75 to 96 yuan. Following the opening of this section, train operations will be scheduled according to regular, weekend, and peak-period services, with a maximum of 55 high-speed train sets running on any given day.
