The Origins of Crane Development
In 10 BC, the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius described a crane in his architectural treatise. This machine featured a mast topped with a pulley; the mast’s position was secured by cables, and these cables, passing through the pulley, were hauled by a winch to lift heavy loads. For particularly heavy loads, two masts could be arranged in a braced, A-shaped configuration to enable lateral movement of the load, though the range of motion was very limited and operation was highly challenging.

The main features of crane tires are that the operator’s cab and the crane’s control cabin are integrated into a single unit, and that the machine evolved from a crawler crane. The crawler tracks and undercarriage of the traveling mechanism have been replaced with a tire-equipped chassis, thereby eliminating the drawback of crawler cranes—namely, that their track pads can damage road surfaces. This type of equipment falls under the category of material-handling machinery.

From October 13 to December 1, 2022—a full 49 days, spanning mid-autumn to early winter—Zhengzhou, in a uniquely distinctive manner, quietly witnessed the transition of a season. The unprecedented complexity of this outbreak and the prolonged lockdown imposed challenges on our city’s economic and social development that had never been seen before. As a leading enterprise in specialized construction equipment, Xindafang is involved in numerous major domestic projects. Any suspension of work or production would result in severe delays and immeasurable losses. Under lockdown conditions, how to simultaneously contain the epidemic and maintain stable operations has become the top priority. Unifying thinking and implementing precise measures to fully control the epidemic. In light of the grave epidemic situation and taking into account the company’s specific circumstances, Chairman Zhang Zhihua put forward the overarching requirement of “thoroughly understanding policies, enforcing stringent prevention and control measures, ensuring unity across all levels, and maintaining stable operations.” Executive General Manager Shen Yi actively implemented these directives, coordinating efforts, adopting targeted strategies, and conducting rigorous reviews at every level, resulting in Xindafang being included among the first batch of enterprises on the whitelist for “closed-loop management and continuous operation.” To this end, Xindafang acted with urgency, making proactive arrangements and promptly convening a special meeting on “epidemic prevention and control and ensuring production,” comprehensively outlining the company’s epidemic control and production operations. The meeting emphasized the need for all employees to demonstrate a strong sense of political responsibility, rigorously implementing epidemic prevention measures and taking responsibility for themselves, their families, the group, and society at large. It underscored that whether under home isolation or stationed at the factory, whether working online or offline, everyone must heighten awareness, align their thinking, ensure no lapses in responsibility, maintain uninterrupted work, and unite as one to fight the epidemic. During the lockdown, logistical disruptions severely hampered the procurement of daily necessities. The General Administration Department went to great lengths, exploring every possible channel to secure sufficient supplies of masks, alcohol, 84 disinfectant, protective suits, and other epidemic-prevention materials; provided three meals a day free of charge; and furnished essential living amenities such as camp beds and bedding for those remaining at the factory. In cold weather, warm cotton-padded jackets were distributed to frontline operators; dedicated staff conducted daily disinfection and sterilization of office areas, production workshops, cafeterias, dormitories, and other key zones—ensuring that those staying at the factory felt comfortable, cared for, and reassured. These measures provided robust logistical support for both daily life and production, serving as the critical foundation and source of confidence for all personnel remaining at the factory to resolutely win the battle against the epidemic. Focusing on core business and making coordinated plans to ensure steady progress in production and operations. All frontline operators at the Production Center remained steadfastly on duty, with key personnel assigned to critical positions, concentrating on priority projects, meticulously planning, and steadily advancing all production and operational tasks to ensure smooth execution of equipment empty-load and full-load tests, as well as timely project delivery milestones. During this period, procurement and shipment became significant challenges. The Production Center implemented scientific scheduling and close coordination, applying for permits for the entry and exit of key materials, successfully completing the manufacturing of multiple projects, including the CIMC flatbed transport vehicle for Yantai, the mobile formwork system for the Baoyin High-Speed Railway, and the modular assembly trolley for Qingdao Metro stations. Additionally, shipments of equipment such as the CR9 Bridge girder transporter and the Pearl River Delta water-source configuration flatbed transport vehicle were completed on schedule, demonstrating Xindafang’s unwavering commitment and capability in sustaining production during the pandemic. At each research institute, key personnel remained on site to oversee drawing preparation and issuance, while other technical staff worked from home according to their regular schedules, thus fulfilling the arduous yet honorable mission of this special period through alternative modes of work. Despite the lockdown in Zhengzhou, other cities maintained normal traffic flow, so even under strict adherence to epidemic prevention policies, technical, sales, and debt-collection personnel from various business units continued to travel across the country, meeting clients, pursuing new projects, and capturing market opportunities—effectively reinforcing the company’s operational safety net. Meanwhile, employees in other departments, though working from home, remained firmly committed to their respective roles. Pre-bid planning meetings, technical exchange sessions, project progress reports, financial briefings, and other video conferences were held online as scheduled, ensuring that normal production and business operations were not disrupted. Furthermore, projects across the country have reported encouraging results. Xindafang’s contribution to the successful launch of five satellites by Xinghe Power has earned widespread acclaim; the Zhengji High-Speed Railway project, the Dengguan section of the Chengdu–Zigong–Yibin High-Speed Railway, and the Yugan West section of the Changsha–Jingdezhen–Huangshan High-Speed Railway have all been successfully completed, delivering two high-quality contributions to the vision of a Beautiful China through “precision manufacturing and relentless pursuit of excellence”; meanwhile, the Fanling project in Hong Kong and the Xiangjiaba Irrigation District project in Yibin have commenced one after another, once again showcasing the prestige of China’s major national infrastructure projects. Taking responsibility and making selfless contributions to achieve “dual victory” in epidemic prevention and production. There is a force called unity, and a spirit called rising to meet challenges. Although this epidemic has brought significant inconvenience to our operations, it has also enabled us to achieve a profound spiritual victory. Deputy General Manager Chen Hao, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Technology Center Zhao Fangxing, Director of the General Office Li Junling, General Manager of the Overseas Business Division Du Xichang, and Head of the General Administration Department Song Wengang, along with other mid- and senior-level managers, set an exemplary example by staying on duty, providing frontline leadership, and remaining steadfast until the lockdown ended. Meanwhile, Production Center General Manager Tao Yunfeng, Quality Management Department Head Wang Jianwen, and heads of all production departments enthusiastically responded to the call for “dual victory in epidemic prevention and production,” choosing to live and work at the company, accelerating production, ensuring progress, and standing firm alongside the epidemic. Song Wengang, Head of the General Administration Department, remarked: “When we can’t even buy vegetables, the worry keeps me awake at night.” He often stays up late into the night checking information about which roads are open and where we can purchase groceries, and as soon as he receives reliable updates, he immediately notifies the cafeteria staff to begin sourcing supplies. In November, the mornings in early winter were already bitterly cold. At just after six o’clock, when the sky was still dim and gray, Li Junling and Song Wengang were already waiting at the factory gate, organizing nucleic acid testing arrangements. On countless busy winter mornings like these, their diligent presence brought a profound sense of stability and warmth. Yang Qiaohui, Logistics Support Specialist in the General Administration Department, and Chen Guang, Quality Inspector in the Quality Management Department, are a married couple. Due to job requirements, they sent their eldest daughter back home to be cared for by her grandparents, while bringing their younger son to live and work at the company, balancing work and childcare until the lockdown ended. Ma Weiwei, a dispatcher in the Assembly Workshop, has two young children, but when faced with the choice between work and family, he resolutely chose to stay at his post. During the peak of the outbreak, he risked venturing into high-risk areas to transport production materials, leaving early and returning late to ensure the steady supply of goods. Could he possibly not be afraid? Of course he was—but his sense of mission and responsibility compelled him to move forward without hesitation. There are countless Xindafang employees like them, who put the greater good before their own families. Their spirit of stepping forward and charging ahead deeply moves us, and their willingness to take responsibility and make selfless contributions warms our hearts. Under their leadership, the entire company has united as never before, displaying extraordinary fighting spirit and dedication. Even as infections continue to emerge among neighboring organizations, the Xindafang Industrial Park has maintained a safe, “zero-infection” status, with production running smoothly as usual. This hard-won “dual victory” in epidemic prevention and production belongs to every government agency and member of society at all levels who has shown concern and support for Xindafang’s development—and even more so, to every Xindafang employee who has strived and sacrificed for it. General Secretary Xi Jinping once summarized the great anti-epidemic spirit at the National Conference Commemorating the Fight Against COVID-19 as comprising five key elements: “life first, national unity, willingness to sacrifice, respect for science, and a shared future.” All Xindafang employees embody these principles: in the face of the epidemic, we breathe the same air and share the same destiny; we stand shoulder to shoulder and heart to heart, using responsibility, action, dedication, and selflessness to paint a timeless portrait of “unity in the face of adversity and collective resistance to the epidemic!”

Xin Dafang Supports Xinghe Power in Successfully Launching Five Satellites in a Single Rocket Launch
Recently, news that “Galaxy Power Aerospace successfully launched the Ceres-1 (Yaosan) carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, smoothly placing five satellites from the Jilin-1 constellation into sun-synchronous orbit, thereby once again setting a new record for private commercial rocket launches and deliveries in China” has quickly gone viral online, becoming the hottest topic of the moment. Galaxy Power was founded by senior engineers from the aerospace industry and is a privately owned space company engaged in low-cost commercial space launch services. During this launch, Xindafang’s DCY80 hydraulic modular transporter played a crucial role. The DCY series of hydraulic transport vehicles are highly integrated mechatronic-hydraulic systems and represent Xindafang’s flagship product, boasting mature technology. Their successful development filled a domestic gap, broke decades-long foreign technological monopolies in China, and has become a mainstay of China’s specialized transportation sector. The DCY80 hydraulic modular transporter was specifically designed by Xindafang for the close-range transport of the Ceres-1 carrier rocket. Its main structure comprises a chassis, suspension system, drive axle, driven axle, steering mechanism, cab, powertrain, braking system, hydraulic system, control system, and electrical system, enabling a wide range of operational modes, including conventional driving, figure-eight turning, diagonal travel, center-rotating, swing-turning (with both front and rear ends swinging), and 90-degree lateral movement. In September of this year, the vehicle underwent empty-load and full-load tests, ride-vibration tests, wireless remote-control tests, and rapid-precision alignment tests, ultimately passing final acceptance testing with all technical specifications fully meeting the required standards. In addition to its transport function, the DCY80 hydraulic modular transporter can also be integrated with a launch pad to form a transport-and-launch vehicle, capable of directly erecting the rocket and transporting it from the assembly building to the launch site for rapid launch operations. This transport-and-launch vehicle features environmental temperature control, agile relocation and transport, and fast erection and launch capabilities, further reducing the pre-launch support requirements at the launch site. It shortens the launch preparation time from four hours to one hour, effectively addressing the longstanding issues of lengthy launch preparations and low launch frequency, and will provide essential ground support for the mass production and delivery of Ceres-1 commercial rockets. Historically, space launches in China have been the exclusive domain of state-owned enterprises; however, with the gradual opening-up of national policies in recent years, a large number of private space companies have rapidly emerged. The recent launch of the Ceres-1 commercial rocket marks the first time that a domestic low-Earth-orbit constellation has employed a private commercial rocket for network deployment, thereby promoting the healthy development of China’s commercial space industry ecosystem. Looking ahead, Xindafang will continue to leverage its technological strengths in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural engineering, stay attuned to industry trends, and pursue continuous innovation, providing more advanced and higher-quality specialized transport vehicles for China’s aerospace, port and terminal, shipbuilding, mining, and tunneling sectors.

Good news keeps pouring in, and abundant achievements are writing a new chapter.
With the successful conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the nationwide campaign to study and implement the spirit of the Congress, the Dengguan Project of the Chengdu–Zigong–Yibin High-Speed Railway and the Yugan West Project of the Changsha–Jingdezhen–Huangshan High-Speed Railway have both reported triumphant news: the girder-erection tasks have been completed on schedule, once again delivering two high-quality contributions to the vision of a Beautiful China under the banner of “precision manufacturing and relentless pursuit of excellence.” Project One: The Dengguan Project of the Chengdu–Zigong–Yibin High-Speed Railway Successfully Completes Erection of 569 Box Girders The Chengdu–Zigong–Yibin High-Speed Railway is a high-speed line within Sichuan Province that connects Chengdu, Zigong, and Yibin. It forms an important part of the “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network’s Beijing–Kunming Corridor, and the Dengguan Project is one of its key sections. The Dengguan Project features a maximum girder-erection gradient of 14‰ and a minimum curve radius of 5,500 meters. On-site construction involved not only the first erection of continuous girders at the beam-launching yard across a turnout but also the crossing of a 500-kV high-voltage power line. In addition, two-box-girder spans had to be erected inside tunnels, including a 1.2-km-long gas tunnel along the girder-transport route—making the challenges self-evident. Xin Dafang deployed its DYJ900 integrated transport-and-erection machine and DLT900 girder-handling machine for this project. The DYJ900 is a specialized piece of equipment independently developed by Xin Dafang, integrating lifting, transporting, and erecting functions in one unit. It is capable of handling the full-span box-girder erection for both double-track high-speed and intercity railways. With no lower guide girder, it boasts a light self-weight, simple operation procedures, and adaptability to standard spans of 32 m, 24 m, and 20 m, as well as non-standard spans between 20 m and 32 m. On site, Xin Dafang’s DYJ900 fully demonstrated its adaptability to demanding working conditions, along with its advanced technology and robust equipment stability. Its high operational efficiency, combined with functions such as diagonal travel, lateral movement, and swing rotation, facilitates easy turnaround at the beam-launching yard. Particularly in bridge–tunnel transition scenarios, its ability to quickly execute internal girder erection and bidirectional girder-turnaround operations (within just two hours) underscores its outstanding performance. Moreover, the machine successfully withstood the extreme heat experienced in Sichuan in August this year. Under scorching sunlight, the temperature of the bridge-erection machine’s structural components soared to 60–70 degrees Celsius. To address this challenge, project personnel adopted measures such as “daytime transport, nighttime erection,” “cross-operation,” and shift rotations, staggering work hours to reduce continuous exposure time for operators, thereby ensuring operational safety and maintaining the construction schedule. By late October, the team had successfully completed the erection of 569 box girders, laying a solid foundation for subsequent phases of the project. Project Two: The Yugan West Project of the Changsha–Jingdezhen–Huangshan High-Speed Railway Successfully Completes Erection of 349 Box Girders The Changsha–Jingdezhen–Huangshan High-Speed Railway is a crucial segment of the Hangzhou–Nanchang High-Speed Railway, together forming the complete Hangzhou–Nanchang corridor. In late October, at the construction site of the Yugan West Project—the pre-station works section of the newly built Changsha–Jingdezhen–Huangshan Railway in Jiangxi Province—Xin Dafang’s DF900D girder-launching machine, DLT900 tire-type girder-handler, MG450 track-mounted girder-lifter, and DCY900 girder-transport vehicle were all engaged in intensive yet orderly final-stage operations. The Yugan West Project features a maximum girder-erection gradient of 10‰ and a minimum curve radius of 8,000 meters. After completing the erection on the Nanchang end, the equipment not only had to carry out the transfer over the bridge and onto the Huangshan end but also cross a 500-kW high-voltage power line, navigate a 500-meter-long embankment climb, and traverse four sections of high-risk frame structures. This equipment set is highly mature; on site, it demonstrates exceptional efficiency and remarkable stability, making it a standout among similar machines and fully meeting the project’s requirements. Notably, when it came to the box-girder erection on the Huangshan end, due to certain geological factors, the original plan was revised to involve four separate frame-structure climbs instead—a practice rarely seen in previous projects and presenting a significant challenge for Xin Dafang’s construction team. Through the development of a specialized construction plan for these frame-structure climbs, on-site equipment modifications, and the formulation of a practical and feasible construction schedule, the team ultimately overcame this technical hurdle and successfully completed the handling, lifting, transportation, and erection of 349 box girders by late October. Each project represents a major showcase and a rigorous training exercise. To deliver premium-quality engineering, Xin Dafang’s project teams tailor production and construction schedules to actual site conditions, ensure that all personnel are properly trained and certified before commencing work, and conduct thorough pre-job briefings and safety education. During operations, they strictly adhere to construction plans and technical specifications, rigorously follow industry standards, and absolutely prohibit any unauthorized or unsafe practices. After completion, they implement quality review and re-inspection measures to achieve high-quality construction goals. Driven by a strong sense of responsibility and mission, they strive for high standards and superior quality in every aspect of the erection process, thereby demonstrating Xin Dafang’s commitment to “excellence in quality and first-class service.” The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has charted the course for future innovation and high-quality development of private enterprises. As a leading domestic manufacturer of specialized construction equipment, Xin Dafang will thoroughly implement the spirit of the Congress, remain steadfast in confidence, and take on the responsibility of developing “major national strategic equipment.” Focusing on addressing bottlenecks and pain points in critical engineering and technological equipment needs—particularly those “choke-point” challenges—Xin Dafang will strive for new breakthroughs through concrete action and vigorous effort, contributing even more significantly to the continued brilliance of “Made in China.”
